Uighur people are well known inside China and Central Asia for their rich tradition of music and dancing. For them no ceremony passes without music or dancing. Many Uighur families own at least one Uighur musical instrument, often times the Dutar, the long neck lute featured in the picture. Uighurs created the largest folk music suit in the world, the Twelve Muqams. Each of the Twelve Muqams is a suite of songs and instrumentals that takes about two hours to play through. The entire Twelve Muqams takes about 24 hours.

This album contains several well-known folk songs. Track 2 is typical dance music. It starts slower but gradually gets faster. Normally, one or two person starts dancing at the beginning and as the music gets faster more and more people join in.
